Race for Education

Look for your Race for Education packets next week. Each child will be bringing home a folder containing all the information you’ll need.

September tuition

Just a reminder that September tuition payments were due on the 1st, and late fees will be assessed on the 10th.

Back-to-School Night

We hope you’re planning to join us on Tuesday, September 9. This is an opportunity for our teachers to share with you about the curriculum, their grading systems, and their goals for the year.

The following is the schedule for the evening:

All teachers, kindergarten through eighth grade, will conduct two 25-minute classroom sessions beginning at 6:30 and 7:00 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m. there will be a discussion of the Family Living course that is offered to seventh and eighth graders. If you are the parent of a seventh grader or a new eighth grader, we encourage you to attend this meeting. Please let us know by Friday whether or not you plan to attend.

We look forward to seeing you Tuesday night! (As this program is designed to orient parents, we do request that you make other arrangements for your child, if possible. We will not have accommodations or provisions for them at this meeting. We thank you for your understanding.)

Look for your copy of the BCS Directory at Back-to-School Night on September 9.

A few reminders

We know how hard it is to remember everything once school begins and we’re back in the "rat race," so we’ve attached some general reminders from the Parent-Student Handbook. We hope you’ll find this to be a helpful guide.

If you are interested in joining the BCS Association for the first time, please call the school for an application. Completed applications must be submitted no later than Monday, September 22.

The following forms were due today. If you haven’t returned them yet, please be sure to send them in tomorrow.

Media Release - one per family

Internet Usage Agreement - one for each child in grades K-8

Discipline Statement - one per family (gr. K-8)

Emergency Drill Permission Form - one for each child in grades PS-8

Quarterly and annual orders for drinks and/or Pizza Fridays are due by Friday, September 5. Please note that late orders will not be accepted.

Morning Extended Care

Just a reminder that there is a sign-in sheet in the preschool house for those who drop off their K-8 children early. If you need to bring your child(ren) to school before 8:00 a.m., please be sure to sign in. Thanks for your help!

Back-to-school picnic

Friday, September 5th is our annual Back-to-School picnic. We will be providing a free lunch of hot dogs, chips, and drinks for the students. If your child does not want a hot dog, please pack lunch as usual. Don’t forget that you’re invited to join your child/children for lunch! If you did not send in your slip from the August Bridge, please call the school as soon as possible so that we have an idea of how many hot dogs to purchase. We are asking that attending parents contribute $1.00 for lunch. Hope to see you on the 5th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.!

The search continues

We are sorry to have to tell you that, despite interviewing several candidates, we have not yet secured a music teacher. We don’t know why God has chosen to have us wait, but we trust His perfect timing, and we know that He will provide us with the right person at the right time. In the meantime, we are happy to report that Mrs. Jenn LaRue, former BCS music teacher, has agreed to serve as long-term substitute for classroom music. Although we will be unable to begin the year with instrumental lessons, choruses will continue to be held each week.

We covet your prayers as we actively continue the search for a full-time music teacher.

Dress down days

As in the past, there will be occasions throughout the year when the K-8 students may earn Dress Down Day Cards. THESE CARDS MAY BE USED ON THE FIRST AND THIRD FRIDAYS OF EACH MONTH, and allow the students to wear street clothes rather than standardized dress. Please be sure to review the following dress code with your child, as all students are required to adhere to its guidelines when dressing down. The Dress Code for Dress Down Days may also be found on the inside back cover of your new Parent-Student Handbook.

Bridgeton Christian School

Dress Code for Dress Down Days

The purpose of the dress code is to insure that students are well groomed and appropriately dressed at all times. This means clothing that is neat, clean, modest, and not hazardous to health and safety. Clothing should be in good taste and not disrupt the school’s educational program. Clothing should be comfortable but not extreme. Hair should be neat, clean, and well-groomed. Here are the guidelines for you to follow:

Outer garments (including hats) may not be worn in the classroom without the teacher’s permission.

Proper footwear must be worn at all times. Flip-flops are not permitted.

Clothing with inappropriate pictures or language is not permitted.

For students in grades 3-8, shorts/culottes/split skirts/etc., must be loose fitting (no biker shorts) and not cut off. They must be longer than the fingertips when standing straight.

Tank tops, open backs, bare midriffs, mesh material without a covering underneath, off the shoulder blouses, spaghetti straps, and frayed or torn clothing are not permitted.

Parents should send in for approval any clothing that is in question.

A note of gratitude

The family of Deana Simmons would like to express sincere thanks for the outpouring of love and concern from our school family after Deana went home to be with the Lord.

A note from our nurse

  • This is just a reminder that all new students, including preschoolers and kindergartners, must have a physical before entering school and must also submit a current record of immunizations. Please check with your child’s doctor to be sure his or her immunizations are up to date.
  • Please be sure to review the attached packet and complete and return the necessary forms.

On Sunday, August 31, Brandi Wells, mother of second grader Mai’Lin Stewart, passed away unexpectedly. Services for Ms. Wells will be held on Thursday, September 4 at Union Baptist Temple in Bridgeton. Friends may call from noon to 2:00 p.m. and services will be held at 2:00 p.m.

We are deeply saddened by this tremendous loss, and we ask that you pray with us for God’s healing power in the lives of Mai’Lin, her grandparents Willie and Barbara Forman, and the rest of the family.

P.E. Uniforms

We want to let you know that our order of physical education uniforms has not arrived as expected. In the meantime, we will fill as many of your orders as we can from our current supply. If we are unable to fill your order and your child does not have a uniform that fits, he or she may wear comfortable shorts and a t-shirt for physical education. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.

Dress Down Day

Students who have Dress Down Day Cards may use them this Friday, September 5th
